Termieten en waterschade hebben helaas het schoolgebouw zodanig verzwakt dat een substantiële onderhoudsbeurt onvermijdelijk is. Hierbeneden is een samenvatting van een aantal mails van de Shinners vrouwengroep over de alternatieven die besproken zijn. Waar het op neerkomt is dat het ongeveer 650.000 Ksh (ongeveer 4.300 euro) gaat kosten om een tijdelijk opvang gebouwtje neer te zetten, waar de kinderen opgevangen kunnen worden terwijl het originele bebouw of verstevigd of vervangen kan worden.

The kids at the centre are doing well.
As I reported about the structure, we tried to reinforce it but unfortunately it may not hold for long. All the timber has been destroyed. We are trying to find help to temporarily make a small structure that the kids can use. The timber of the school buiding is so badly damaged that the structure will probably have to be brought down in the long run. We am afraid reinforcing will prove to be more costly than rebuilding it from scratch. A contractor has made a cost estimate cost for a temporary structure, which amounts to 650,000/ .
In future, the structure may have to be erected using steel and not wood..
Both our students are doing very well. Their graduations are scheduled for December this year, hoping that they pass their final exams....!!
In general, despite the ongoing demonstrations that are paralyzing most activities in the country, Kisumu has been relatively calm. Many lives lost in Nairobi and businesses destroyed. We can only hope that the general political situation will improve....
